‘Negligence’ Reported at Winterbourne View Care Home

It was quite shocking to know that despite getting warnings signs, the authorities concerned did not find it important to take action against a private-run hospital for disabled people. It has been found that the Winterbourne View care home "failed" to provide quality care to its patients.

It even got revealed that staff members trouble their patients and do not even mind abusing them. A review was taken out in which it was found that 11 staff members have admitted that they have failed to take care of their patients.

Things would not have been revealed, if senior nurse Terry Bryan would not have contacted the BBC1's Panorama. In return the latter initiated an investigation, which continued for five weeks.

Videos were shot showing how care takers abused patients. Some of the videos were heart rendering, as it showed care takers slapping patients, leaving them wet, forcing them to pin down and pulling their hair.

Dr. Margaret Flynn has written the 150 page review in which he said that it is a high time now that an action should be taken to stop this institutional abuse. "The Review confirms that the apparatus of oversight across sectors was unequal to the task of uncovering the fact and extent of abuses and crimes at Winterbourne View Hospital", she affirmed.
