He was determined during his last visit to India that he wants to change the future of sanitation in developing countries. Bill Gates is still going strong and has announced that solar power will be used to reinvent the toilet.
It was the brainchild of Gates, who announced a competition in which best ideas would have to be proposed about the reinvention of toilets in developing countries. A lot many ideas were proposed, but the idea of solar power being proposed by the California Institute of Technology has won the maximum votes.
Gates has announced them as winners and have handed them a cash prize of $100,000. Main aim of the project will be to separate water from solid waste and then use the latter to form energy. Gates was of the view that the project will surely help him to realize his dream of improving sanitation facilities in developing countries.
He affirmed that 1.5 million children under the age group of five years old lost their lives, due to unhygienic health conditions.
"Many of these innovations will not only revolutionize sanitation in the developing world, but also help transform our dependence on traditional flush toilets in wealthy nations", said Gates.
