New Generation Drug Releasing Stent to be Out Soon

It has been reported that a new generation treatment has been found which will help in preventing cardiac arrest and death related to cardiac diseases. The new drug releasing stent that is used for opening the arteries can help patients with cardiac problems.

The drug has been invented by Swiss researchers. While writing in the journal of American Medical Association, the researchers noted, "Newer-generation drug-eluting stents with biodegradable polymers provide controlled drug release".

The safety and effectiveness of the drug has been tested by the researchers. For the study, the researchers recruited 1,200 patients of segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). The participants of the study had had heart attack once in their life time.

During the study, the participants received stents emitting drugs. After a period of one month, the researchers found that the new generation drug helped in improving the quality of life of the patients. The participants were administered earlier on monthly basis, and later on, by annual basis. The new generation drug can bring revolution in the treatment of heart patients. However, further studies are required to be conducted to gauge whether or not the treatment could be prescribed to the patients.
