National Meals on Wheels Day Celebrated to Honor Their Volunteers

It has been since the past 50 years that Meals on Wheels has been serving and providing with the best services.

Each year last Wednesday of the month August is celebrated as National Meals on Wheels day. This day is specially celebrated for all the volunteers of the organization. These volunteers are honored for their piece of work, be it preparing meals for the elderly or sick or unprivileged, or those, who deliver these meals daily at door steps.

A pensioner, Katherine Livermore, serving as a volunteer at the organization feels proud and happy for the work she is doing. Every Wednesday she delivers meals.

Encouraged by the work of other volunteers and acknowledging the importance of offering a helping hand, Miss Livermore's carer, Amanda Withers, suggested devoting time for helping the organization.

Miss Livermore, along with certain other young volunteers works with charities like Meals on Wheels, where majority of the volunteers are elderly people.

Ms. Withers asserted that she takes responsibility of the driver's seat and Katherine goes door to door delivering the meals. Every Wednesday they follow the same schedule.

She said, "We all need to be participating members of our community. Working at Meals on Wheels has given Katherine a sense of achievement and purpose. And her enthusiasm also benefits the clients".
