Cablevision launches super-fast 101Mbps Internet access connections

Cablevision

The New York-based cable ISP Cablevision has launched super-fast 101 megabits per second (Mbps) Internet access connections, which is a definite cut above the currently fastest 50Mbps speeds offered by the popular high-speed providers like Verizon and Comcast! With the download speeds of up to 101Mbps and upload speeds of up to 15Mbps, the service would facilitate download of nearly 150 songs or 750 digital photos per minute.

Moreover, Cablevision, which also intends doubling the speed of its Wi-Fi wireless Internet service, has priced its new high-speed service at a monthly $99.95 in New York, sans any overt data caps; which is a much more competitively-priced than the $140 charge for either the Comcast or the Verizon service, though Verizon is a wee bit cheaper in Virginia and New York.

By May 11, Cablevision would likely become the first of the major US cable operators to release the new super-fast speeds to its entire network, thanks to the use of its a new cable technology - DOCSIS 3.0.

Talking about the future prospects of the Cablevision high-speed service, analyst Todd Mitchell of Kaufman Bros. said: "Right now the real demand for 50 to 100 megabits is pretty limited. But over the next two to three years, the number of video applications we all use will grow exponentially so it will become a necessary level of service."
