‘Stoptober: Mass Attempt to quit Smoking

It is for the first time that the England Government has decided to introduce a ‘mass quit smoking attempt’. The campaign starting from October 1 will encourage maximum people to quit smoking for four weeks.

The campaign is based on the ideology of a study, which concludes that people who leave smoking for the aforementioned time period are able to turn into non-smokers.

Professor Dame Sally Davies, the Chief Medical Officer of England, was of the view that they named the event as “Stoptober” campaign. While talking about the methodology of the campaign, Davies said that they will be conducting road shows, media advertising will be done.

It seems that Davies knows the value of internet advertising and has especially acknowledged the popularity of Facebook. Therefore, they have created a Facebook page on the name of the event as well as have created an application.

When Health Minister Norman Lamb was asked about giving a try to the event, he said he does feel that they should give a try to the campaign and also affirmed that the campaign has a lot of potential.

Jean King, the Director of tobacco control at the Cancer Research UK, affirmed, “Smoking accounts for one in four cancer deaths and nearly a fifth of all cancer cases so it’s vital that work continues to support smokers to quit”.
