Unauthorized Health Product Imported From China Recalled

An illegal naturally obtained health product has been recalled, after discovering that the product comprised of high levels of mercury, lead and arsenic. Health Canada, declaring of the recall on Tuesday, asserted that the levels of the mercury found in the product are more than that permitted.

Further, the department affirmed that the levels could pose risk to the health of people, as even the levels of lead are four times more than the allowable limit and in case of arsenic, it is twice the acceptable limit. The product used to be imported from China

The product marketed under the brand name of Zhuifeng Tougu Wan, was sold for conventional Chinese use. The product has been reported to have sold in Chilliwack, Vancouver and Richmond in British Columbia and in Toronto. Four stores in Vancouver and one store in Toronto used to sell the product.

The department assured that they were supervising the recall by dispenser Wing Quon Enterprises. Further, it has urged the users to stop using the product.

It said, "The product could be a particular risk to children and pregnant women. Symptoms of exposure to unsafe levels of mercury include nausea, abdominal pain, vomiting, muscle cramps, diarrhea, heart abnormalities and anemia".
