Sony Ready to Offer Smaller PlayStation 3 for Upcoming Holiday Season

Be ready to enjoy this holiday season and so many more to come with Sony Corp's new PlayStation 3, which the company said is a small and a lighter version of the PlayStation 3 that has been designed especially with an aim to cheer up people and all those customers, who have started flocking the games that are played on mobile devices and personal computers.

Sony said in its statement of today that the sale of the new consoles that have a comparatively higher storage capacity as compared to the other current models will start from Sept. 25 in North America. The device will be sold at $249 for 250 gigabytes of storage and $299 for 500 gigabytes.

Moreover, Sony is also prepared with its second plan of the "PlayStation Mobile" service, through which, the company has planned to serve its users with the ability to easily download games on their smartphones and tablet computers. The service will start from Oct. 3, said Mr. Andrew House, head of the games business in Tokyo.

"Sony is probably trying to lure consumers with the new model after Nintendo released its Wii U", said Mr. Takashi Oka, a Tokyo-based analyst at TIW Inc. "Still, game-console markets have matured in developed nations and it may be hard to stimulate demand just by making it smaller".
