Primate Extinction needs to be stopped

As the report name “Primates in Peril: The World’s 25 Most Endangered Primates 2012-2014” suggests, the 25 most endangered primates in the world have been located. The list being created by a number of organizations, like Species Survival Commission (SSC), the International Primatological Society (IPS), and Conservation International (CI).

It is quite sad to know that primates now face the threat of extinction, as they are considered to be the closest relative of humans. The phenomenon of extinction has not only been seen in one or two countries, but across the globe.

With passage of time, it has been seen that apes, monkeys and other primates have been found to be on the verge of extinction. There is a moral and ethical duty to save them, so those, which are left, should not get vanished.

Some of the reasons for which extinction has been seen, are removal of tress, forests, encroaching development and poaching and hunting. “The list features nine primate species from Asia, six from Madagascar, five from Africa and five from the Neotropics. In terms of individual countries, Madagascar tops the list”, said the report makers. Authors have highlighted that there is a need that the authorities concerned should take stern steps to reduce the primate extinction.
