It was few days back only when it was revealed that a research ship has been developed. The ship has been named as Sikuliaq, and has been developed by the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
The research ship was said to be quite useful for researches in oceans. It is now that it has been released in the water to accomplish its missions. It was being found that a number of people gathered at the Marinette Marine Corporation shipyard to see the ship in the water.
Groaning sounds and thundering noises led the ship go in the water. It was seen that the ship first went inside the water, but quickly upright itself. The journey of the ship seems to have begun, as it has been found that the ship will be probing and tests will be carried out by the researchers at the Lake Michigan.
“Sikuliaq is classified as a global class research ship, one of seven global class ships in the US academic fleet and the only one that is ice classed”, said researcher Dan Oliver.
It is said to be the second research ship after the United States Coast Guard cutter Healy. The former one also is carrying out academic study in Alaska. It has also been found that the research ship will also need to go through certain tests. To see that it can move on ice, it will be taken to Bering Sea, but in April 2014.
