A recent report showed what all US is trying to do in order to get approval for turning into headquarters for the Green Climate Fund. It has been known that Germany is among all those nations who are trying to get the meaty fund, with Bonn, in Germany, being considered for the same in addition to Songdo, South Korea, and Geneva, Switzerland.
Apparently, Obama administration is not so keen for Bonn as it's also hosting the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Though it adds weight to pick Bonn, it is believed by Obama administration that it might affect UNFCCC dominating the new fund.
In response to all this, Manfred Konukiewitz, Deputy Director-General for climate policy in Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Germany's board member on the Green Climate Fund said, "I have been telling my friends from the US that we should manage an institutional separation with a spatial proximity. We are very clear that the fund is not a subsidiary to the UNFCCC".
It is believed that US government is quite concerned about geopolitical issues, which makes it back some or the other country in such matters. With rising interest around the Green Climate Fund, it would be interesting to see what the final decision would come out to be.
