Victorian Health Minister Raises Concerns over Cut in Health Budget

Recent reports have revealed that Victorian Health Minister David Davis will be trying to influence his complement health ministers during a conference going to be held in Perth, in order to annul the changes that have been brought about in the health agreement as a result of which, $474 million will be cut from the health budget of the state.

Mr. Davis said, "The decision by federal Treasurer Wayne Swan to unilaterally rejig, redefine the growth factors in the health agreement would have significant effects on Victorian health services".

Further, he asserted that the treasurer has considered the census information provided for the financial year 2006 to review the growth of the population, which shows that the state's population has declined by 11,000.

He has formally informed federal Health Minister Tanya Plibersek regarding the situation and has also requested her to put some light on the concerns raised regarding the changes and acknowledged her that Australian Bureau of Statistics data revealed that the state has accounted for a 1.4% in its population during the year 2011-12.

He claimed that the data provided by Australian Bureau of Statistics should have been used, instead of the figures used by the treasurer to determine the population growth.

He believes that Ms Plibersek will look into the matter and will nullify the changes.
