Not only is the Palm Pre, by itself, one of the most-awaited smartphones, the latest news making rounds is that the Palm Pre Touchstone cordless charger is a one-of-its-kind accessory charging pad set to initiate in a new era of wireless charging!
The most-recent of the information pertaining to the secrecy-enveloped Palm Pre comes from a Best Buy employee who said that a stock manifest has revealed the smartphone's cordless charger, priced at $69.99.
With the Palm Pre apparently all-set for its June 7 release, the smartphone's integration with its Touchstone wireless charger - wherein charging takes place through magnetic induction - is a pioneering move, with imminent relevance to the technological world.
Though Palm is initially implementing the wireless charging technique only for the Pre, other consumers and electronics companies would likely follow suit, considering the advantages of the technology. In fact, later this year, an Israel-based company, Powermat, is expected to launch an array of charging pads that can support up to six devices charging at the same rate.
Noting the inherent benefits and the scope of wireless charging in the years to come, NPD analyst Ross Rubin said: "The potential for wireless charging is tremendous. It could really usher in a whole new level of convenience and extension of battery life as products are charged passively."
