House passes war spending bill

House passes war spending bill

Washington  - The US House of Representatives signed off Thursday on more than 95 billion dollars for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The House voted 368-60 to approve the 97-billion-dollar spending bill, which includes money to help Pakistan fight militants. US Defence Secretary Robert Gates has urged quick pass of the measure, warning that war funding could begin drying up by July.

The bill contains 38 billion dollars for day-to-day operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and 400 million dollars to help Pakistan. The remainder went to weapons and other equipment, as well as to support diplomatic efforts.

The Senate is expected to take up the measure next week. (dpa)
