President Obama holds first White House meeting with African leader

Washington  - US President Barack Obama met Thursday with Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, with the two leaders discussing cooperation with other partners in the region to seek solutions to some of Africa's worst conflicts.

Their talks addressed US-Tanzanian partnerships in health, education and agriculture.

Kikwete was the first African head of state to visit the White House since Obama took office on January 20.

Obama, whose father was Kenyan, is the first African-American president of the United States. (dpa)
