A Pill to Lessen the Effect of Too Much Drinking

Scientists at the University of California have recently made a new tablet which they say is very effective in slashing the impact of over-drinking on body.

The new pill, as explained by the scientists, works by lowering down the blood alcohol concentration (BAC), thereby, saving the lever from excess damage. The pill is deemed very beneficial for those involved in heavy drinking and suffering from alcoholism.

The study revealing the creation of the pill was published in Nature Nanotechnology on Sunday, in which the working of the pill has been explained. It was tested on mice before the conclusions were made. Two enzymes present in this pill are said to have the wonder effect.

It was learnt that the mice which were given these enzymes reported lower levels of BAC and were healthier. The study claimed that the pill was effective in slashing intoxication by one-tenth during the first hour of drinking while the effect was reduced by over 33% through night.

"The work illustrates that these artificially synthesized nanocomplexes containing alcohol oxidase and catalase may provide a method for preventing liver injury arising from the overconsumption of alcohol", explained Scientist Yunfeng Lu and colleagues from various Chinese and the US universities.
