On Thursday, Sirius XM launched a new iPhone application on the Apple App store - the download is likely aimed at the creation of a new potential user base, as it is for the first time that Sirius XM will be available on the iPhone and iPod Touch!
However, though the newly-launched application offers access to most Sirius XM programming, it does not include Howard Stern's channels.
In order to access the new Sirius XM iPhone application, subscribers - except those who already have an online or Premium subscription - need to pay for an Internet subscription, over and above their standard subscription. For new users who sign up, Sirius will offer a free trial service - later allowing them to sign up as paid subscribers via the iPhone.
Subscribers can access 120 channels, which include Oprah Radio and MLB Home Plate, along with extra Internet-only channels like music, talk radio and comedy showcases offering "multiple plays" of certain programs and special shows. The channels can be quickly surfed too, thanks to iPhone's multi-touch display!
In addition, the app allows users the purchase of a Sirius XM song while it is playing or tag favorite songs for later purchase on iTunes. Another feature, the "Lookaround" feature that allows users to see what's playing on different channels; as well as mark their favorite channels!
