With Palm saying that the Pre's Mojo software development kit (SDK) will be available by the end of summer, developers keen to create applications for the newly-released smartphone will have to wait for the while!
However, the over-excited hackers' community simply cannot wait and is a bit too eager to go ahead - so much so that they have hacked into the Pre, and are 'at work' creating "jailbroken" applications, similar to the iPhone ones that Apple has been fighting against for years.
Meanwhile, Palm - which intends ramping up its 'early access program' before the SDK kit is released - has by design built a developer-friendly webOS operating system, thereby giving content makers the leeway to create mobile apps using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other standard Web coding.
Nonetheless, the SDK kit is still indispensable for the developers for creating official apps compatible with the Pre hardware. Commenting on the so-called "jailbroken" community, Palm has simply reiterated the fact that Mojo-based projects will be way better than the hacking attempts.
Appearing surprisingly conciliatory, Palm said: "We recognize that some developers will experiment in ways that cross official boundaries, but we believe that our formal offerings - and community efforts built around those offerings - will provide the best experience for the vast majority of webOS developers and users."
