AT&T hits record highs in iPhone sales on “iLaunch day 2009”!

In an ‘internal’ memo sent to its employees, AT&T has mentioned that the so-called “iLaunch day 2009” – specifically speaking, June 19, the day of the launch of the new iPhone 3GS – saw the best-ever sales at the AT&T retail stores!

Congratulating its team for the record highs set on June 19, the AT&T memo – which has been ‘leaked’ and published in various blogs – reiterated the company’s claims of having pre-sold ‘hundreds of thousands’ units of the new Apple smartphone.

The AT&T memo said: “‘iLaunch day 2009’ was one for the record books, as AT&T customers scrambled to get their hands on the fastest, most powerful iPhone yet.”

While Apple has reported over one million sales of the iPhone 3GS units on the weekend beginning June 19, the launch-day statistics easily surpassed not just both the earlier iPhone launch days, but also the ‘conventionally-heavy’ retail sales days like Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, and December 26th, the day after Christmas.

Mentioning the extraordinary sales on the iPhone 3GS launch day, the AT&T memo said that the records set on the day in its retail stores included: the best-ever sales day; second-highest traffic day; maximum transactions processed via its IT systems in one day; maximum upgrade eligibility checks in one day; biggest order day in att.com history; and largest features sales day in att.com history!
