Telecoms giant BT has announced its efforts to speed up the delivery of super-fast broadband to 1.5m British homes and businesses by early summer 2010.
The current move of the company is a part of BT's assurance to spend £1.5bn to bring in super-fast broadband to 10m homes by 2012.
Chief executive of BT's OpenReach division, Steve Robertson, said, "Fibre is the future and so we're speeding up the pace of our plans."
The initial pilots of the technology went live this week in Muswell Hill, north London, and Whitchurch, south Wales. All the new locations can be found on the BT web site.
On the other hand, BT's main competitor, Virgin Media spoke its mind by saying that BT's efforts were still lacking in ambition. Virgin Media further claimed that it has already been offering the fastest broadband in the U. K. with ultra-fast 50Mb service.
BT informed further that it would think over expanding its network up to 90pc of the country if the Govt. provides attractive subsidies.
It is worth mentioning here that in order to concentrate on super-fast broadband; BT has cancelled its plans to bring out controversial advertising software developed by Phorm.
