According to the most recent statistics revealed by ComScore Inc, despite the slight boost that Microsoft's revamped search site 'Bing' got in the first post-launch month, Microsoft still remains in a distant third place in US Web searches; with Google and Yahoo still maintaining their respective top two positions.
Talking in terms of specific figures for the month of June, Google retained its US Web searches share at 65 percent; while Yahoo's share fell to 19.6 percent; and Microsoft's Bing helped its share rise marginally to 8.4 percent, from its 8 percent share in May.
Over the past few years, the Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft has been figuring out ways to catch up with its bigger rivals - both in terms of its Live Search as well as its earlier Web search manifestation; and also by trying to acquire Yahoo. This time round, however, it is banking on Bing to do the needful - emphasizing that Bing is better than its competitors for searches related to travel, shopping and health!
However, analysts do not expect Bing to do any unprecedented wonders! Analyst Benjamin Schachter, for Broadpoint AmTech, said in a note to investors: "Bing doesn't exactly set the world on fire. We continue to believe much of Bing's early interest is being driven by curiosity and early adopters, and not from fundamentally better search experiences or outcomes."
