Angelina Jolie Replaces Witherspoon As Highest-Paid Actress

Releasing its annual rankings Friday, The Hollywood Reporter reveals Oscar winner - Angelina Jolie is 2008's highest paid actress, taking home a pay package of $15-20-million per movie.

As usual, topping the trade papers' 17th Annual Power 100 list, Oprah Winfrey is easily entertainment industry's most influential woman. Participating in a Q & A session with Editor-in-Chief Elizabeth Guider at the Beverly Hills Hotel, Oprah confessed, she used comfort food as a cure for failure. Amongst scores of female power brokers, Oprah and others celebrated each other at a private breakfast reception.

Claiming the No. 2 spot with $15 million for 'Duplicity' scheduled for a 2009 release, Oscar winner Julia Roberts, 41, returns after a long hiatus from the screen.

Reese Witherspoon, 32, last year's No. 1 and who won an Oscar for her role in 'Walk the Line', dropped to No. 3, earning $14-million for 'Four Christmases', the comedy that opened last week.

Rounding off the list are Cameron Diaz, Katherine Heigl, Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Aniston, with the 39-year-old star of TV sitcom 'Friends' earning more than $8-million for the comedy 'Marley & Me', which opened on Christmas Day. Others like Oscar winners - Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman, no longer seem to be able to command $10-million a movie. Compare top leading actresses earning with that of Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp, who The Hollywood Reporter says make between $15-million and $20-million per film.

However, salaries for both actors and actresses are dropping due to the economic downturn, except for Will Smith riding high at up to $25 million per movie. Even though everyone's prices have gone down, it is of concern top actresses' salaries continue to lag behind those of leading men.
