Young boy’s Prosthetic Leg stolen in Orange County on Sunday
Reports showed that a 4 year old boy's prosthetic leg was stolen while he was on a visit to the beach in Orange County this weekend.
The young Southern California boy was on his first ever visit to the beach over the weekend. Liam Brenes of Rancho Santa Margarita went to Crystal Cove State Park in Orange County on Sunday with his parents when his prosthetic leg was stolen from the beach.
The family had left the custom prosthetic leg with a "Star Wars" decoration along with other items on the beach while Liam, wearing an older leg, was near the tide pools. The boy said that the family spent two hours in water and when they came back, everything was stolen. His clothes and shoes, a camera and other items were also stolen from the beach.
Liam was born with a fibula and it was amputated below the knee when he was about 1 year old. However, the boy continues to live his life to the fullest, he takes karate lessons and plays soccer. After his prosthetic leg was stolen, hundreds of people offered to help him replace his limb. Several prosthetics companies, including one in Palmdale, offered to make Liam an artificial limb free of charge.
Liam went on to get his white Karate belt on Tuesday and after that the family went to Essential Orthotics and Prosthetics in Palmdale to get his new prosthetic leg.
