Recent survey revealed that more than a million Scots are drowning themselves in alcohol without getting help. The survey found that nearly one in three Scottish men and one in four women is drinking a dangerous amount of alcohol.
Figures in the Scottish Alcohol Needs Assessment showed that despite this large number of people drinking alcohol in excess only one in 12 alcoholics accessed treatment for alcohol problems.
Data also showed that more men are affected by alcohol problems as compared to women. The report also showed that out of more than 1.1 million Scots drinking at hazardous or harmful levels of alcohol only 17,000 accessed treatment for alcohol problems in 2006 to 2007.
Dr Maggie Watts, chairman of SAADAT said: "Our association has long been concerned about the gap between need and service availability."
