BoB - that's the name of the new Australian-market-specific Internet and phone unit developed by iiNet, aimed at providing an 'all-in-one' home communications solution. This latest modem/router offering from iiNet has been manufactured by Belkin.
The most exclusive feature of the stylish and sleek black BoB unit is the addition of a phone handset for VoIP calls. Other than that, the device features the standard modem/router bits - including support for 802.11n, 4 ethernet ports on the back and two USB charging ports.
BoB, which apparently is an acronym for 'Broadband in a Box,' works with Mac, Linux and Windows software.
The unit is compatible with home wireless and wired computers, gaming consoles, and USB storage; and can also serve as a charger for iPods and BlackBerrys. An optional cordless phone handset enables users to make calls over the Internet, via iiNet's Naked DSL broadband.
Another of BoB's key selling points, especially for small businesses, is the option of a simultaneous connection of up to five additional DECT handsets, as well as the device's support for up to three separate phone lines.
Currently available only to new and existing iiNet customers, the base BoB unit costs $369 outright including a single handset, and $69 per additional handset. Users who sign up for iiNet's 24-month BoB contracts can get their BoB unit for $269.
