With its recently-announced lineup of six new PowerShot point-and-shoot cameras, Canon appears to have taken into account the specific needs of a range of picture- takers - from casual photographers to hardcore photography enthusiasts!

Canon's latest lineup includes: the $500 PowerShot G11; $430 PowerShot S90; $400 PowerShot SX20; $330 PowerShot SD980; $300 PowerShot SD940; and $250 PowerShot SX120. These cameras are expected to hit the stores in September and October.

The flagship of the lineup, G11, and the S90 are both 10-megapixel cameras supporting Canon's new High Sensitivity System. While the G11 feature a 5X zoom and a fold-out 2.8-inch LCD; the S90 features a fast F/2.0 lens; and a standard 3.8X optical zoom.

The SX20 and the SD980, and SD940 are 12.1-megapixel cameras and record 720p high-definition video. While the SX20 boasts a 20X ultra-zoom for any shooting situation, and a soundless engine for zoom recording; the other two models are essentially for casual photographers. Canon's first touch-enabled model SD980 features a 3-inch LCD and a 5X zoom; while the stylish SD940 has a 4x zoom lens.

Meanwhile, the least-expensive of all the new models, the SX120 features a 10X zoom lens.

Talking about the new Canon lineup of six, Yuichi Ishizuka - Senior VP and GM for the consumer imaging group at Canon USA - said that these cameras will give consumers "a wide array of choices" in terms of upgrading and enhancing their photography experience.
