Yahoo’s revitalized attempts to create a more streamlined and competent interface took shape on Monday in the form of a revamped Yahoo home page – the efforts will soon extend in the direction of an upgraded Yahoo Mail, Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo Search, thereby bringing in a number of social networking features.
Noting that the company intends making its core Web properties more persuasive for the users, Ari Balogh, Yahoo’s CTO and Executive VP of products, said in a Monday statement: “The evolution you see today reflects our focus on enabling people to connect with what matters to them most.”
The Sunnyvale, California-based Internet portal is working towards a restructured search-page for delivering more pertinent results to users’ queries. Yahoo Search will also get a realtime query suggestion engine, called ‘Search Assist’, to the search box on each Yahoo page in the US. Featuring a new universal header, ‘Search Assist’ will incorporate design and navigation components with links to Yahoo destinations, like News, Sports, MyYahoo, Mail, Finance, and the Yahoo home page.
The refurbished Yahoo Search will not only comprise more intelligent and intuitive search results, it will also provide easier access to search controls like search scan/SafeSearch, and deliver refined search results with enhanced tools.
Furthermore, Yahoo’s new Messenger instant-messaging product would boast high-quality video calling capabilities, enabling users to connect though full-screen, ‘face-to-face’ chats.
