12 percent people drive within two hours of binge drinking

Many studies have shown that binge drinking leads to impaired driving hence increasing risk of accidents but it seems that many people don’t pay attention to this fact hence putting their lives along with others, on risk.

Binge drinking leads to more than 11,000 deaths annually from alcohol-related motor vehicle crashes.

Recent study revealed that around one in eight binge drinkers accept that they drive within two hours of drinking. Binge drinking is defined as having five or more drinks during an occasion.

Research team led by Dr. Timothy Naimi, a physician with the alcohol team at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention analyzed data collected from more than 14,000 "binge drinkers " in 13 states in 2003 and 14 states in 2004.

During the study, nearly 12 percent of study subjects said that they had gone driving within two hours of heavy drinking. Study also showed that 50 percent of binge drinkers fall in age group of 25 to 44.

Study showed that 54.3 percent binge drinkers often drive back from bars, clubs and restaurants. Only 23 percent have indulged in binge drinking at someone else’s home.
