Sprint to reportedly reduce Palm Pre price by $50

Sprint

Going by a price list that leaked out of Sprint, "indirect partner retail dealers" will be able to sell the Palm Pre for $149.99 after mail-in rebate, with effect from September - thereby marking the first price-reduction for the WebOS-based smartphone launched in June!

At present, the Pre has been selling for $200 with a two-year contract and mail-in rebate, exclusively via Sprint.

Though, as per the information forwarded by a tipster working at a Sprint "indirect partner" store, the Pre price-cut will be applicable to indirect Sprint retail channels, it is only logical to assume that similar cuts will also be effective at Sprint's own retail stores, telesales, and Sprint. com.

Many analysts would predict that the rumored $50 cut in the price of the Pre is likely a part of Palm's efforts to improve the sales of its new smartphone - more so as it is assumed that the Pre sales are much below the company's expectations, even though there has been no official disclosure about the sales figures.

The Pre smartphone - which features multi-touch-capable 3.1-inch display; 8 GB built-in storage; Wi-Fi; Bluetooth 2.1; GPS; 3 megapixel LED flash camera; and Sprint's mobile broadband service EV-DO Rev. A - is due for release in Europe during holiday season,; and its GSM version for Europe and Latin America would likely have the 3G standard HSDPA!
