BT to double 24Mbps UK broadband coverage by spring 2011

BT has announced its plan to double the number of homes that receive 24 megabit broadband by spring 2011.

At present 40 per cent of UK homes are receiving 24 megabit broadband service and BT wants to provide this service to about 75 per cent UK homes by spring 2011. Speaking on the issue, Cameron Rejali, MD for products at BT, said,

"Today's announcement is further evidence of BT's commitment to deliver next-generation broadband services across the UK."

Currently, the majority of BT customers are getting download-speeds of up to 8Mbps through ADSL MAX technology. However, ADSL2+ provides download-speeds of up to 24Mbps.

The company has also been planning to trim down WBC prices to communications providers, starting January next year.
