With Palm having released its webOS firmware 1.2.1, the most recent version of its operating system for the Pre and the forthcoming Pixi, the users of the Pre will be able to sync the smartphone with the Apple's latest edition of iTunes, 9.0.1.
Going by a PreCentral report, Palm managed to circumvent Apple's protective measures pertaining to iTunes sync capability - for which it updated to iTunes 9 to break the Pre's media synchronization with iTunes - in "2.5 hours."
Noting that Palm merely switched the vendor ID to get around Apple's protection of iTunes, the report added that Palm will "continue to update webOS to maintain sync until it takes more than 40 man-hours of effort to add the feature back."
In addition to the restored sync with iTunes, the webOS 1.2.1 also provides enhanced support for online video and audio, and addresses an issue related to Microsoft Exchange 2007 contacts.
Furthermore, the updated webOS, which will reportedly arrive on the handsets of the Pre users, will further allow owners of the Pre and the upcoming Pixi handsets to save space by the way of syncing photo albums and thumbnails.
