Hair loss and Balding: They are Different
Hair loss and Balding

Balding is a condition when there is a lack of hair in a place where is often grows, especially on the head.

The most common form of baldness is a progressive hair thinning condition called androgenic alopecia or 'male pattern baldness' occurring in adult male humans and other species.

The amount and patterns of baldness can vary greatly and can range from male and female pattern alopecia, alopecia areata, where some of the hair are lost, and alopecia totalis, which involves the loss of all head hair, to the most extreme form of hair loss, alopecia universalis, which involves the loss of all hair from the head and the body.

Whether men bald more than women? - Both men and women are affected by baldness, though men are more prone to it.

Men have lost some of their hair by the age of 25 already. The reason behind this could be attributed to a chemical called Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which builds up around the hair follicle and finally damages the follicle and the hair.

Women on the other hand don't get bald typically but get thinning of hair which could result from pregnancy, lack of nutrients in the body, or even certain birth control and hormone medications.

The main reasons for baldness are varied. Some of them are - alopecia areata, syphilis, burns, traction alopecia, seborrhoeic dermatitis, post-febrile condition, debility and emaciation, during lactation, certain drugs like hydration, endocrine disorders etc, hereditary factors, injury, leprosy and X-rays burns, stress and strains etc.
