US broadcasters approve mobile digital TV standard

The Advanced Television Systems Committee has approved the Mobile DTV standard, in a move that will let local TV stations to relay to mobile devices.

Over 800 broadcasting stations have adopted the final mobile digital television broadcast standard.

As many as 70 Open Mobile Video Coalition member stations have shown interest in rolling out mobile digital TV programs this year.

LG and Samsung have already prepared themselves for the new standard.

Mark Richer, president of the ATSC, said, “Consumers will soon reap the benefits from this innovative use of broadcast digital television.”

Video site YouTube streamed 6.68 billion videos to 106 million unique viewers in September. 

But, still mobile television is not much popular in the US.
