Investigations over the alleged assault of 20-year-old Vietnamese student Phuong Ho at the hands of police officers are all set to begin, according to the San Jose Police Department.
As revealed by a mobile phone video, which was reportedly taken by Ho's roommate, officers appear to be repeatedly beating the victim with batons, while also using a Taser gun, as the student lies face down on the floor of this home. The alleged beating happened last month and Ho appears to be handcuffed all the time.
Ho, a maths major at San Jose State, shared that he had been joking about hurting his roommate with a knife. Without proper knowledge, he claimed, the police used excessive force on him and assaulted him while he groped around for his glasses which had fallen off as a result of the struggle.
San Jose Police Assistant Chief Daniel Katz, after watching the video, said that the matter is being taken "very seriously" and an investigation into the officers' uncalled for behavior is definitely happening. The officers in the video and their union representatives have refrained from commenting.
