Will Verizon’s Motorola Droid smartphone be an ‘iPhone killer’?

Verizon’s Motorola Droid

There is almost every possible chance that the forthcoming Motorola Droid from Verizon will live up to the much-hyped expectations from this reportedly powerful Web surfing and communications tool!

Theoretically, the Droid apparently boasts a host of features that make it a potential 'iPhone killer' - an 3.7-inch 480x854 display; a slide-out QWERTY keyboard; turn-by-turn GPS navigation tool; 5-megapixel autofocus camera with flash; built-in 16GB memory card; an SD card slot; Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 support; a notable suite of Web features.

To be the first smartphone featuring the Android 2.0 operating system, the Droid supports the 1900MHz and 800MHz CDMA EvDO bands on the Verizon Wireless network; and features a 1,400
-mAh battery capable of 385 minutes of talk time and 270 hours of standby time.

Promising smooth and brisk Web browsing, the Droid's snappy Web browser loads images really fast, because of the powerful 550MHz processor and swift hardware-accelerated graphics. One of the three home screens of the phone displays preinstalled icons labeled Messaging, Phone, Contacts, Browser, Maps, and Market.

However, whether or not the Droid can actually lure the users away from the Apple iPhone still remains to be seen. Despite the fact that the iPhone does not have an outstanding sheet of latest specifications, the enviable popularity of the smartphone basically results from its refined interface and intuitive and patented gestures, which somehow remain unbeaten thus far!
