Halloween is the time for candies which means lots more cavities. Dr. Slutsky has brought about a charitable offer in response to some charity this Halloween.
She goes a step further by not just buying Halloween Candy from children but also weighs them and send them to U. S. soldiers overseas. She will return the acts of charity by giving free dental work and a certificate thanking them for thinking of others.
She has plans to open her office at 100 Northfield Ave., West Orange, on Sunday, November 1 from 11 a. m. to 2 p. m. The children will be offered an appointment for a free dental examination at the same time that they offer candies.
Dr. Slutsky says, "I'm trying to turn unhealthy contests for gathering more candy into a healthy contest - collecting candy to be donated to a better cause, as a reward for their generosity, I'll help them protect their teeth."
The offer is open to patients who are 18 or under and are new and the cleaning and fluoride treatment otherwise costs up to $172.
She opened her office at West Orange general dentistry office in 2005 with her husband, Eric, an ophthalmologist in Butler. They have a 5-year-old girl and an 18-month old boy.
She says that she and her husband hope to have a lot of fun weighing the candy with the children and helping them learn about the benefits of helping others and themselves at the same time.
Slutsky added that she does not stop anyone from eating candy altogether but she definitely urges them to clean the sugar off their teeth.
