Toyota Motor Corp., is now sending out warnings to owners of its automobiles across the US of the fact that floor mats on the driver's seat could cause a safety hazard and should be removed before driving.
Currently, there are an estimated 3.8 million Toyota owners in America, and all are advised to take the floor mat out as there is a chance that it might slip out of position and cause the accelerator pedal to stick.
Owners of models by both Toyota and Lexus will be notified of the safety hazard via e-mail, as has been confirmed by the company. Based on several complaints of unintended acceleration and the San Diego crash incident that resulted in the death of a California Highway Patrol officer as well as three members of a family, Toyota announced the plans for its biggest American vehicle recall on September 29.
According to Bob Carter, Vice President Sales of Toyota's US group, said, "The company has found “no evidence” of any cause for the flaw other than floor mats." Similarly for Lexus, floor mats seem to be the only problem, and, therefore, no investigations are happening further.
The Tokyo, Japan, based automobile giant, Toyota has it American sales headquarters in Torrance, California.
