In the light of the global recession, and the fact that customers now spend very carefully and expect more out of every dollar spent, WestJet Airlines Inc., is offering an increased percentage of seat sales to its passengers, as has been confirmed by the Calgary based airline's Chief Executive, Sean Durfy.
"We have felt over this recession how discretionary the buying of an airline ticket really is", Durfy shared. Despite the fact that the airline's third quarter report declining profits, WestJet has been aggressively pricing fares in hopes of winning more and more customers, something that chief rival Air Canada is giving the firm a tough competition for.
Third quarter report made public by the carrier reported profits of $31.4 million, or 24 cents per share, which was substantially lower than the figures posted for the same period last year, which stood firm at $57.9 million or 45 cents per share. Revenue also decline from last year's $718.4 million to $600.6 Million.
Despite a falling profit figure, WestJet is positive about the future, with new developments happening. This month alone, the carrier has seen a surge in number of passengers and added new flights and routes. The carrier is optimistic about the coming year and has some exciting partnership announcements up its sleeve.
