Software giant, Microsoft has made yet another layoff of about 800 employees belonging to different locations and businesses this Wednesday. This layoff completes the initially projected 5000 job cuts announced earlier in January.
However, announcements indicate that there may be further job cuts as Microsoft looks ahead to reduce the contemporary costs and increasing their efficiency while prioritizing their major areas of focus.
About 1200 Microsoft employees found themselves out of jobs in January and there was similar scenario as 3000 employees were let go in May. Market reaction to the most recent layoff has been positive as more number of job cuts was expected.
The cuts significantly followed the report that they had gone down by about 14 per cent in revenue and all are eagerly awaiting the reports for the next quarter to see the performance of Windows 7 and its impact on PC sales.
It is an interesting fact to note that Don Dodge, Microsoft's Emerging Business Team’s Director of business development was part of the layoff and the development completely took him by surprise, as was reported in his blog. Microsoft also announced that they would still hire where there was necessity while continuing its job cuts.
