Microsoft’s forthcoming ‘Patch Tuesday’ to comprise six security updates

In its Security Bulletin Advance Notification, Microsoft announced on Thursday that its forthcoming 'Patch Tuesday,' on November 10, will comprise six security bulletins to fix 15 vulnerabilities in its Windows and Office products.

Out of the four bulletins for Windows, three have been rated as 'critical' - the highest threat level of the Microsoft rating system. One of the three 'critical' bulletins is for Windows 2000; and the other for Windows XP, Vista, and Server 2003 and 2008.

The two bulletins for Office will address vulnerabilities that have been rated as 'important.' One of these two bulletins would address vulnerabilities in Excel and Word, while the other will fix vulnerabilities in the Microsoft Office For Mac product.

In addition to these six security bulletins, the 'Patch Tuesday' will also include the release of a few non-security updates. Along with the standard Windows Mail Junk Mail filter and Malicious Software Removal Tool, these updates will also pertain to Group Policy Preference Client Side Extensions and some non-security bug fixes.

Microsoft's last month 'Patch Tuesday' had set a record of sorts by including fixes for as many as 34 vulnerabilities in 13 updates. Out of these, 8 vulnerabilities had received the 'critical' rating, which included patches for two zero-day vulnerabilities in the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol and FTP Service, exploiting which hackers could attack the computers of the users.
