'Ikee' Worm Irking iPhone Owners

Apple iPhone

Considered the world's most sophisticated phone and a darling of many, the Apple iPhone is currently being plagued by an irritating worm which attacks the phone's wallpaper. Presently, the worm is eating into Apple phones all over Australia.

The program, which works all its own, changes the phone's current wallpaper to an image of Rick Astley, a singer of the 80s, with the text "ikee is never going to give you up", thus the name of the worm 'ikee'.

It has been reported that the program is affecting only 'jail break' iPhones, wherein all the protection mechanisms provided by Apple have been removed. Although the experts have assured that the worm is not dangerous or harmful, they have also warned that there is a good possibility that a more malicious upgrade could be coming-up.

"The creator of the worm has released full source code of the four existing variants of this worm", shared Mikko Hypponen of security firm F-secure. "This means that there will quickly be more variants, and they might have nastier payload than just changing your wallpaper".

The iPhone worm is believed to be an extension of the currently widespread internet meme known as Rickrolling, wherein internet users end up clicking which they believe is a relevant link, but find out that they have been taken to a video of "Never gonna give you up".
