Sexual Desire and Libido Higher in Women Who Took ‘Female Viagra’

During a drug trial it was found that women who took ‘Female Viagra’ reported more satisfying sexual experiences as well as a much better libido.

About 9% to 26 % women experience reduced sexual desire which is directly related to their age and menopause.

Drug companies have been trying to strike gold by making a drug for women which is equivalent to ‘Viagra’, launched decades ago becoming an instant blockbuster worth billions.

It was just this week that doctors declared that a new drug, which has been tested and found to improve the sexual desire in women, might be the answer to inventing Viagra for women.

Initially this drug was developed as an antidepressant but it was later on found to have libido-boosting side effects.

It may be approved within 18 months to be used in Britain.

A six-month long clinical trial was taken by a group of women and they reported to experience higher libidos than those who were given a placebo.

The drug has initiated controversy in some sex researchers despite doctors treating it as a medical advancement. They argue that the estimated number of women suffering from low libido has been exaggerated by pharmaceutical companies.

"It's essentially a Viagra-like drug for women in that diminished desire or libido is the most common feminine sexual problem, like erectile dysfunction in men," said John Thorp, professor of obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of North Carolina Medical School.
