Going by the information forwarded by Russian game site GotPS3, the last-week-released popular series' game 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,' for the for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, is no longer available in the Russian stores.
The Website elaborated that the non-availability of the game in Russia results from the country's officials threatening to ban the game.
As a result, retailers have yanked the copies of the controversial game, which features a "No Russian" level, from store shelves. Even the outflow of fresh stock of the game has been shut down by the distributors in the country.
Though the contentious thematic content of 'Modern Warfare 2' escaped widespread criticism, the game does require the players to fire at and terrorize innocent civilians in a Moscow airport. Apparently, the game designers at Infinity Ward, though expecting some criticism from a peaceful country like Russia, were not aware that the so-called contentious scenes will so forcefully be objected to!
According to a report in the Mirror newspaper, the Russian politicians' evident criticism of the game has resulted in the deletion of the controversial scenes from both the PC and Steam editions.
However, it is not clear whether the Russian government's threat to ban the game comes from the play mechanics of the game, or the fact that players act as a CIA agent on the lookout for a Russian ultranationalist.
