Upgrading the webOS, Palm has released the 1.3.1 update which aims at fixing certain vulnerabilities and reinforcing increased security. However, the updated webOS firmware does not re- establish Palm Pre's sync with Apple iTunes.
Since the 1.3.1 update clearly boosts enterprise features, mobile professionals would probably appreciate the updated software, more so as it also enhances the calendar functionalities via the addition of Yahoo synchronization support.
With the update, Palm has attempted to address the flaw whereby calendar notifications reappeared after being eliminated; and has introduced improved formatting for the location of an event.
Moreover, the new update, which also improves YouTube application, gives a notable boost to mobile messaging, by announcing the availability of the Yahoo Instant Messenger, as well as the revelation of the sender's contact number for the messaging notification.
Expanding the list of mail types available in setup, the update 1.3.1 now includes Google Apps and Yahoo small business domain e-mail accounts. Furthermore, Exchange 2003 users now get the option of choosing an alphanumeric password even if the server may not need such a password.
Among the security updates that the new Palm firmware includes are allowing users to set the time interval for when an idle phone locks; and addition of browser cookies to the backup service for continued accessibility, without having to re-enter credentials, to sites that require log-ins.
