‘Tweets,’ videos, photos added to Yahoo's search news ‘shortcuts’
Yahoo

Following the footsteps of Microsoft and Google, who have already announced their intentions to include Twitter messages in their respective search results, Yahoo Thursday said that 'tweets', photos and video clips have been added to enhance its search news "shortcuts."

News "shortcuts" are essentially those packages of information that feature a 'breaking news' topic and appear at the top of Yahoo Web search results. The latest announcement implies that along with the headline links, three new tabs have been added to respectively include relevant 'tweets,' photos and video clips in these shortcuts.

Clicking on the Twitter-dedicated tab will reveal news links that users of the Twitter microblogging site have posted. While some links will be taken from Twitter accounts set up by the news media, like The Associated Press and CNN; the others will be drawn from users mentioning an interesting story they stumbled upon.

The 'tweets' addition to Yahoo's search news 'shortcuts' will begin next year. This inclusion is the latest indication that Yahoo is determined to add zing to its search results, even though it will largely lean on Microsoft for a large part of the technology which powers its search engine.

About Yahoo's 'Twitter' shift, Larry Cornett, consumer products VP for Yahoo Search, said: "This lets the searcher flip though these different types of information to see everything around that topic that's happening right now."
