Further stepping up the ongoing Verizon-AT&T television advertising tussle, the AT&T partner and iPhone-maker Apple Monday launched two retaliatory iPhone TV ads; over and above the AT&T ad that attempts to “set the record straight” around Verizon’s “There's a map for that” campaign.
The Apple ads have come in retribution to the Verizon teaser ads campaign – whereby Verizon pitched the new Motorola Droid against the iPhone, as well as pointed out AT&T’s ‘spotty’ 3G coverage vis-à-vis its own more-extensive one.
While both the Apple-released ads focus on the iPhone's ability of enabling users to use voice and data capabilities concurrently over the AT&T network, the ads conclude with a final attack on the ‘non-doings’ of the Droid as well as its carrier Verizon.
Both the ads leave the users with the finishing question: “Can your phone and your network do that?”
Meanwhile, AT&T, which has filed a lawsuit against Verizon for the ‘false and misleading’ 3G coverage ads, has also pepped up its ad assault on Verizon. The carrier, after earlier resorting to writing letters to consumers for clarifying the coverage area issue, has now launched a new commercial that attacks the maps used in the Verizon Droid ad.
The new ad features actor Luke Walker elaborating that that 97 percent Americans can access AT&T’s cell phone coverage – which includes 2.5G and 3G coverage combined.
