The drug-making company Pfizer has been ordered to pay a total of $103 million in punitive damages to two women who were found to have breast cancer following the use of hormonal drugs as per the state officials in Philadelphia.

In one of the case the jury reached the judgment of ordering damages for $28M this week and in another case it unsealed a month-old $75 million judgment in the other case.

The earlier finding of punitive damages had been sealed till the second judgment was made to avoid prejudicing the second jury.

The company’s potential financial liability is still uncertain as far as such lawsuits are concerned. There are at least 1,500 other product liability suits pending in the courts of Philadelphia and a total of more than 10,000 around the country.

Analysts from the Wall Street said that the latest judgments would have little effect on Pfizer unless the damages are upheld on appeal. The Pfizer shares were up 17 cents in the stock trading on Monday closing at $18.53, near their 52-week high.
