A study of the attitudes of over 2,000 adults by the Deloitte Centre for Health solutions says Canadians want quicker and more accessible health care services. They want convenient access to care, their own health records and also to online services like scheduling or viewing test results.
A majority of Canadians are even ready to expand private health care in Canada- provided that these services do not harm the publicly funded portions of the system.
Increased numbers of people are visiting the doctor’s clinic with loaded information from the internet and other sources to take the responsibility for better care for themselves.
Mark Fam, senior manager at the Deloitte centre said, “But they’re going to need help along the way. That’s where we see a desire by consumers for more personalized services.”
The survey results suggest that most of the Canadians are satisfied with the health system, but about 37% feel that they understand how it works. 60% people accepted going online for information about treatment.
Half of the people in the survey said that they would like having access to a secure internet site which lets them schedule the doctor’s visits, see their own medical records or order their own prescription refills.
