In a recent announcement, Health Canada has warned Canadians not to use certain Acai berry products after shipments that were stopped at the border were found containing an undeclared drug called sildenafil, a powerful active ingredient of impotence medicine Viagra.
The Acai berry products, advertised for anti-aging and weight loss, were not authorized for sale in Canada but may have been brought into the country by travelers or through the Internet.
The list of products tested by Health Canada included Anti-Aging, Brazilian Pure, Acai Berry, Guarana Blast, Anti-aging Vital Rez V, Weight Loss VitalAcai, Muscle Mass and Dietary Supplement Acai Power Blast.
From a research at Ukmedix News it was found that there were thousands of similar products containing chemicals which should be avoided and thus it was advisable to only use products for weight loss for erectile dysfunction which have been prescribed by a doctor.
Health Canada said anyone who used the products and had concerns about their health should consult a doctor.
However, there were no reports of adverse reactions from those who were associated with the use of the seven products in Canada.
