As confirmed by the company, Amazon is now looking to expand the reach of its Kindle e-reader franchise onto popular BlackBerry smartphones. Kindle applications are already available for download for iPhones and Windows PCs, and now the company is looking to tap into the lucrative BlackBerry market as well.
Although e-reader manufactured by the likes of Amazon and Barnes & Noble are generally viewed as devices directed primarily at consumers, their business segment reach cannot be denied, and all business people who use BlackBerry phones are expected to make a huge customer base for electronic readers.
The announcement for a Kindle application for BalckBerrys has been made by Amazon on its official website, and as for the release date, "Coming Soon" is what the firm has to say.
According to recent estimates pegged by Collins Stewart, a financial advisory group, in 2009 alone, Amazon is expected to sell as many as 550,000 Kindle readers, and currently the reader faces tough competition from about 40 other such devices, like Barnes & Noble's Nook.
In all, about $301.4 Million worth of revenue is expected from Kindle for 2009, taking the figure to $761.4 Million for 2010, $1.2 Billion in 2001 and a whopping $1.8 Billion for the year 2012.
